AM: The Basics of Results Accountability

(3 hours including a 15 min break)

Part 1 of this workshop addresses how to establish results and indicators of the well-being of children, families adults and communities and how to use results to drive decision making and budgeting. This part of the workshop is most useful to those in community partnerships trying to get from talk to action on quasltiy of life conditions for children, adults, families and the community as a whole.

Part 2 of this workshop addresses how to establish performance measures for programs and agencies and how to use performance measures to improve performance. This part of the workshop is most useful for program managers, agency heads and those in oversight roles trying to improve performance or establish a performance accountability system.

Part 3 addresses the linkage between program accountability and cross-community accountability, and presents options for advancing both tracks of work back home.

PM: Hands-on Turn the Curve Exercise

      (2 to 2 1/2 hours)

Tables of 6 participants work together on the use of the concepts discussed in the morning session.

Option A: Tables choose a community condition and associated indicator they wish to work on (e.g. percent of children reading at grade level or teen pregnancy rate) and go through the whole thinking process from talk to action, including the story behind the baseline, partners who have a role to play, and what works to turn the curve. At then end of this session, the workgroups have the beginnings of an action plan. (This exercise works best when indicator baselines have been prepared in advance.)

Option B: Tables choose to work on the development of performance measures for a particular program. Each table goes through the thinking process from identification of measures to development of a beginning action plan to improve performance.
